Report: Stellantis is Again Considering Offloading Maserati

It feels like we’ve been speculating over whether or not Stellantis will eventually sell one of its brands for years, but a recent report from Reuters suggests that something might finally be happening.

The automaker recently hired a consulting firm to assess tariff impacts on Maserati and Alfa Romeo, and one of the potential action plans from that study could be offloading Maserati. Reuters’ source relayed the information anonymously, but Stellantis quickly shot down the reports, saying, “Respectfully, Maserati is not for sale.”

Despite its long, storied run, Maserati has languished with falling sales and a lack of vision in recent years. It has no new model launches on the horizon after Stellantis put its previous business plan on hold, leading the automaker to consider any and all actions to course correct.

It’s easy to throw shade at Maserati for these problems, but a clear roadmap with at least one new product could have gone a long way toward preventing this situation. Stellantis likely won’t publicly announce a decision to offload Maserati until the very last moment, but the brand has plenty of potential and could become something special in the right hands. Those hands could come from China, as reports suggest that companies like Chery may be interested in snapping up the Italian automaker.
